7 people bitten by escaped Tibetan mastiff

SEVEN people were attacked by a Tibetan mastiff this morning after the dog escaped from its cage and rushed to a road in the Xiaokunshan community in Songjiang District.

Police said the attack happened around 6:25am when the dog suddenly appeared on the road and began to chase and bite people.

Seven passers-by got bitten in their hands and legs and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

None of them are in critical condition, the hospital says. Four were injected with rabies vaccine and three had stitches.

Police captured the dog and contacted its owner, a gardening company that raised this ferocious canine in an iron cage. Police said the company had registered and vaccinated the dog but would pay the medical bills for the victims.

According to the city's new law on dog keeping adopted on May 15, a dog which attacked people twice or attacked more than two people at one time shall be taken away by police and its owner's dog-keeping permit shall be revoked.
