82-year-old man dies in high-rise fall

AN 82-year-old man died after falling from the 23rd floor of a residential building and hooked by a clothes-drying rod halfway during the falling in Shanghai's Yangpu District this morning, Xinmin.cn reported.

Witnesses said they heard several big bangs and saw some clothes-drying rods were already deformed because of the hit. The man, whose name was not revealed, was believed to have dropped from his home in Ningwu Neighborhood on Changyang Road this morning.

The old man didn't hit the ground eventually because he was stuck in the belly by a rod on the 14th floor. Firefighters reached the scene immediately but it took about an hour to get the man off the rod.

Some relative of the old man said he was alone at home when the incident occurred. Local police later confirmed the man was already dead and ruled out the possibility of homicide.
