9 teams to paddle in dragon boat race on Suzhou Creek
A boat race will be held on the Suzhou Creek to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival that falls on June 23, next Saturday.
Nine teams including those from France, Hungary and Macau will compete on a 1,000-meter-long section of the creek between Gubei Road Bridge and Luding Road Bridge in Putuo District.
People can watch the race on the banks but the crowd control might be in place to prevent stampede.
The race will be broadcast live by Shanghai Television.
The sightseeing cruise service on the creek will be halted in the morning to make room for the race and it will resume in the afternoon.
The city's first dragon boat race on the Suzhou Creek was held in 2003. The competition has been held annually since then.
