Baby boy who swallowed steel ring 20 days ago saved by doctors
DOCTORS today successfully removed a C-shaped steel ring from a 9-month-old boy, who swallowed it over 20 days ago when the ring dropped from a chain that his sister was playing with, the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University said.
The family in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, sent the baby to the hospital yesterday after he kept coughing and continued to suffer diarrhea for one week.
Parents said a previous test in a Zhejang hospital detected a ring-shape item in the boy’s stomach and the baby had been frequently vomiting and also had diarrhea for days.
Doctors located the ring in the boy’s intestines and had it removed through an endoscope to avoid injury.
Dr Huang Ying from the children’s hospital said parents must be enough careful to prevent children from eating odd items. The hospital removes hundreds of items from inside children’s bodies by using endoscope every year.
