A couple of cheats end up in prison
A WOMAN was jailed for two and a half years after she embezzled 10 million yuan (US$1.4 million) from her company to lend to her boyfriend, who turned out to be a swindler, prosecutors in Hongkou District said yesterday.
Her “boyfriend,” a married man who had also cheated several other women, was jailed for 12 years and fined 200,000 yuan for fraud.
Prosecutors said the woman’s family had sold their house to repay the company but she still owed more than 3 million yuan.
Wang, a financial manager at a trade company, added Chen as a business contact two years ago. In April last year, they teamed up to play a WeChat game.
Later they met and began a relationship. To keep Chen, Wang pretended to be rich and gave him expensive gifts. Chen began borrowing money on various pretexts.
Wang embezzled 10 million yuan from her company. The money was later transferred to bank accounts of Chen’s parents, his wife, other “ex-girlfriends” and to repay debts.
