A lion is unleashed in the Africa Pavilion

EXPO visitors will come face to face with a ferocious lion at the Africa Joint Pavilion from today.

But they'll not be in any danger - the lion is just a stuffed specimen.

The lion and a rhinoceros cub will be on display in the pavilion's Kenya stand until the end of the Expo.

Kenya is praised as a paradise for wildlife, and the pavilion wanted to give people the opportunity to see what real animals living in East Africa look like in the wild.

The two specimens arrived in Shanghai two weeks ago and are so well preserved you could almost believe they were still alive. Before coming to Shanghai, the lion was on display at the Kenya National Museum, while the rhinoceros was kept at the Kenya Wildlife Service.

Kenya's stand also features the country's traditional singing and dance, and buildings typical of Nairobi, the capital.

In recent years, Kenya has become a popular destination for Chinese tourists because of its wildlife.
