A perfect date to get married

HERE comes another auspicious day for tying the knot: 10-10-10. The city's marriage registry officials said almost all online reservations for marriage certificate pick-up have been booked out.

Many young people view the date as auspicious because it implies the Chinese idiom, "Perfection in everything."

They will even select the best time -- the time slots from 10am to 10:20am have been booked solidly, according to the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau.

"Good Beginning is half success," said Alice Huo, who will be a bride on that day. "We believe that a good date will allow us a good beginning."

The bureau said originally the wedding registration offices would be closed on Sundays, but as a huge number of new couples expressed their wishes to tie their knot on the day, they would like to make an exception on October 10.

The city has experienced two wedding booms in the past two years: August 8, 2008 and September 9 last year. New couples believed that 8-8-8 would bring them fortune as the number "eight" pronounces the same as "making fortune" in Chinese; while 9-9-9 will bless their love to last forever as "nine" the same as "everlasting."
