A solar-powered river cruise can be yours
From next month, 20 lucky visitors who book to see the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion will be offered a solar-powered sightseeing cruise on the Huangpu River.
The green-energy boat was put into use over the weekend as a "floating pavilion" and will entertain visitors during the Expo in an environmentally friendly way.
The 32-meter vessel can accommodate more than 150 passengers and has a moveable 48-square-meter solar cell panel to capture the sun's energy.
The ship travels at 15 kilometers an hour and uses at least 30 percent less electrical energy compared to traditional vessels. Waste emissions are also reduced.
The ship uses lithium batteries and diesel engines as alternative power sources.
For details of how you can make reservations for the pavilion go to its Website at www.expo2010scp.com.
