Abandoned baby boy may have congenital heart disease
AN abandoned infant found in the city's suburban Jinshan District is hospitalized for a suspected congenital heart disease, Xinmin Evening News reported yesterday on its official website.
At about 6pm on Tuesday, a rural woman in Zhujing Town heard the infant wailing and found the new-born boy in the roadside woods wrapped in towels.
Police were called immediately and soon rushed to the scene. They found leftover infant formula, a feeding bottle and three bus tickets in a black plastic bag left near the boy.
In order to trace his identity, police checked the video footages captured by monitoring cameras along the bus route. They discovered three people were carrying the boy while boarding the bus at around 3:30pm. However, about an hour and a half later, they got off the bus and left the baby in the woods.
Police have urged the parents to claim their baby as soon as possible; otherwise, they will be subject to punishment under the law.
The baby has been admitted to the Jinshan branch of Shanghai No.6 People's Hospital. A medical check-up suggests he may be suffering from congenital heart disease, doctors said.
