Absurd method to cope with stress: divorced man tosses out heavy objects to damage parked cars
RECENTLY, a divorce-stressed man living in the Yangpu District has been arrested for jeopardizing and putting public safety at risk after he was found to be deliberately dropping objects from his high-storied apartment flat repeatedly, consequently damaging 10 sedans parked downstairs, Shanghai Television reported.
The first car destruction in the residential complex on Yanji Road M took place on the evening of May 24th when a flower pot was tossed out from an unidentified flat and smashed into a red car parked downstairs.
In the days to follow, another 9 cars received alike and almost identical damage marks.
As a result, alarmed police immediately payed a visit to the site and marked a man, surnamed Wang, who lived alone on a 14th-floor apartment, as the prime suspect.
Afterwards, police positioned security devices such as video cameras, car camcorders and high-speed cameras around in order to collect evidence. They waited for a week and finally caught Wang red-handed at around 9pm on June 6 while he opened his balcony window to throw down a heavy object.
Wang allegedly admitted to police that he had been tossing out objects such as flower pots, glass bottles and bowls to let out his depression caused by the divorce.
Police suspected that the divorce might have affected Wang mentally, resulting in him suffering from extreme stress thus leading to such behavior. The investigation is currently still ongoing.
