Africa pavilion starts rotating director duty
THE Africa Joint Pavilion started the "Director on Duty" system yesterday.
All 42 countries and the African Union in the pavilion will dispatch an official to be the pavilion director by turns.
Each director on duty will be in charge of liaison, conference organizing, VIP reception and general problem-solving for five days.
Yesterday, a gold-plated scepter about a meter long, representing the power of the director on duty, was handed over to Sagar Traore from Senegal. She will be the director of the pavilion to May 5.
"We bring our mineral, agricultural products, seafood as well as our culture here," said Traore. "And we hope the Expo can bring more investment to Africa from the other parts of the world."
On May 1, the Africa Pavilion welcomed more than 69,000 visitors. The "Smile Square," where huge stone-carved faces were placed, attracted many visitors to pose with them.
