Airport cleared in crash
PUDONG International Airport operations had nothing to do with the cargo-plane crash that killed three crewmen last month, an initial investigation has determined.
The cause of the accident is still unknown.
But the investigation's early findings, released yesterday, showed that the airport's routines and operations were "ruled out as a reason for the accident," said Wang Shiqin, a spokesman for the Pudong airport.
Wang said the plane's black boxes were under "close analysis" as the probe continues.
On November 28, the Zimbabwe-registered plane overshot a runway on takeoff and crashed on impact. Three American crew members on board were killed and four others injured.
The initial investigation was conducted by national aviation authorities, airport officials and an American team. Also on hand were representatives of the cargo-plane company and the MD-11 aircraft's makers.
