Ambulance calls soar with heat wave
AMBULANCE centers have been overwhelmed by calls for help during the summer plum rain season, with calls rising by 10 percent to more than 800 a day, Shanghai Medical Emergency Center said today.
Heat stroke, strokes, car accidents and heart attacks have been the top four emergencies since last Friday, with a peak of 300 calls within one minute.
Emergency official Guan Min said ambulances would be sent on about 1,000 calls a day when the temperature exceeds 35 degrees Celsius over the next two to three months.
Besides the 100 ambulances on duty every day, the center has another 10 teams ready to help out if needed, Gu said.
