American double-bass soloist Gary Karr to perform in city on Sunday

WORLD-RENOWNED American double-bass soloist Gary Karr will collaborate with Chinese double bassist Lu Yuanxiong and piano soloist Evan Mitchell on a performance in Shanghai on Sunday.

The performance, titled "The Bass Hero" is a program of the "Weekly Radio Concert," which is initiated by the Classical Music Radio 947 to promote classical music to the general population.

It is the first time for Karr, 74, to present a concert in China. This afternoon Karr, Lu and the 93-year-old celebrated Chinese bassist Zheng Daren shared with students of the Affiliated High School of Shanghai Conservatory Of Music their expertise and interesting performing experiences.

Time Magazine used to praise Karr as "the world's leading solo bassist."

Sunday's concert in Shanghai will include classical works by Koussevitzky, Myers, Bottesini and Saint-Saens. The artists will also perform famous Chinese scores "Song of the Grassland," "Newspaper Boy" and "The Song of Guerrillas."
