An aural journey into the city's past

A CD, "The Sounds of Shanghai," which is a collection of the sounds of the city over hundreds years has recently been released by China Record Shanghai Co.

The album is also the licensed publication of the 2010 World Expo Shanghai organizers.

This album contains 50 minutes of the sounds that represent the city's history over several hundred years.

Among the city's cultural heritage included on the album include examples of old Shanghai folk cultures, the earliest albums which were released in Shanghai, the earliest pop music and the earliest orchestral music to emanate from the city, as well as the legendary experience of some foreign musicians in Shanghai.

Featured on the album are "Dashijie (Big World) Generations," "Landmark Recording," "Echoes of the Old Lanes," the violin solo "To A Wild Rose," "Shanghai Nursery Rhyme," traditional ensemble "Zi Zhudiao," and "Chimes of the Bund's Customs House."

Jin Ya, host of radio program "Sounds Archive" on Shanghai People's Radio, produced the album.
