Arrest in flowerpot attack and robbery

PROSECUTORS yesterday approved the arrest of a man for allegedly knocking a local resident unconscious with a flowerpot before robbing him of 37,000 yuan (US$5,606).

Pudong New Area prosecutors said the suspect, surnamed Ye, went into a bank on Miaojing Road to look for targets and followed his victim out. Ye was detained the next day and has been charged with robbery.

The attack was the second in the city just days before the Spring Festival in which the victim was going home after withdrawing cash and suffered head injuries.

In this attack, the victim, surnamed Wu, was returning home in the Chuansha area of the Pudong New Area on January 31.

He suffered head injuries, but has recovered.

Wu was struck on the head from behind with a brick and knocked out with a flowerpot. Ye was detained the following afternoon in Quzhou City, Zhejiang Province.

A suspect surnamed Yao was detained in Jiangsu Province on January 28 after a man was attacked with a hammer on January 25 in the city and robbed of 50,000 yuan.
