Arrested jewelry thieves confess
TWO men who allegedly took a golden bracelet worth more than 40,000 yuan (US$6,360) from a Shanghai First Asia Jewelry outlet by force have been arrested and charged with forcible seizure, Qingpu District prosecutors said yesterday.
One of the suspects, Zhao Xiaogang, was said to enter the jewelry store on Gongyuan Road on January 8 and pretend to be a customer in quest of gold products. Prosecutors said Zhao asked the shop assistant to give him a gold ring but returned it and expressed interest in a much more expensive gold bracelet.
The other suspect, Qian Wenbin, was waiting outside and standing guard, prosecutors said. When the shop assistant handed Zhao a gold bracelet weighing 103 grams, Zhao rushed out of the store and got away in a taxi with Qian.
The pair confessed their crimes after they were detained in their hometown.
