Arrests of 6 Husi execs approved
LOCAL prosecutors yesterday approved the arrests of six executives of Shanghai Husi Food Co, the company at the center of the tainted meat scandal.
The six, including chief executive Hu Jun, were implicated last month following a TV program that showed Husi employees using out-of-date and substandard meat products.
The arrests were approved by the No. 2 branch of the Shanghai People’s Procuratorate.
The company, which supplied McDonald’s and Yum Brands — parent of KFC, Carl’s Jr and Burger King — was found to have altered production dates on more than 4,000 cases of smoked beef patties, the Shanghai Food and Drug Administration said earlier.
Husi was also charged with recycling food products returned by clients and mixing out-of-date meat with fresh cuts, the administration said.
The results of the investigation into the firm are expected to be announced soon, the administration said this week.
