Arrive early at airports for increased security checks
Security checks at Shanghai’s two airports are being increased over the Spring Festival rush that began today and passengers are being advised arrive in good time.
More passengers will be asked to take off shoes and belts and have bags opened in random checks at the Hongqiao and Pudong international airports, the Shanghai Airport Authority said today.
All passengers wearing boots, high heels and thick-soled shoes will be asked to remove these for checks, Jiang Hao, the head of security officials at the Hongqiao airport told Shanghai Daily.
Jiang said the percentage of passengers asked to open hand luggage will be double that during other times.
Passengers will also be asked to take battery chargers and other electronic devices from bags during security checks.
“Passengers should anticipate at least an hour for security checks,” he said.
Chinese New Year is on February 19.
