Arroyo attends friendly gala
THE Philippines treated Expo visitors to a day of festivities featuring various music and dance performances as part of its National Pavilion Day celebration yesterday.
More than 100 performers from the Philippines, excluding those already here for daily performances, arrived to take part in the day-long spectacle.
Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo attended "The Philippines-China Friendship Gala: Two Rivers, Two Hearts" at Expo Center last night to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the nations.
Besides live shows, Expo visitors also were able to sample authentic Philippine cuisine at the pavilion's Travel Caf??. A boutique shop offers souvenir and a "hilot" wellness area provided a chance to sample a Filipino-style massage.
At the pavilion's trade zone, serious traders looking to distribute Philippine products in China were able to submit their business cards. Other activities included a monthly raffle for a chance to win a free trip to the Philippines from Philippine Airlines.
The pavilion is around 2,000 square meters. Its theme is "Performing Cities."
The Philippines Pavilion aims to project the country's cities as a melting pot of different sensibilities and cultural influence; blending traditional, tribal and rural with the urban, modern and contemporary.
