Auditors find millions misused
AUDITORS in Shanghai last year found 752 million yuan (US$110.06 million) had been misused in 842 projects carried out in the city in 2007, the Oriental Morning Post reported today, citing an audit work report published on the city government Website.
Another 90 billion yuan was found to have been improperly managed and 87.07 million yuan wasted, the report said.
Local governments were found to have misused 266 million yuan and improperly managed 9.86 billion yuan.
Auditors targeted city finance and taxation departments as well as the 22 city-level government departments, the report said.
The audit's focus included government organized purchases, vehicle management and administrative fee collections.
It also covered special funds slated for social security, medical insurance, aid for quake-affected areas and aid to help find employment for disabled people.
