Australia shares experience in senior care

AUSTRALIAN healthcare professionals and senior care operators shared their experience in senior care and vocational training with their counterparts in Shanghai today with keynote speeches, panel discussions and business networking.

They also delivered training classes on topics such as the relationship of family support, community and senior care home nursing and how to apply virtual reality technology on the nursing training for seniors suffering from dementia.

"There are significant opportunities for Australian organizations to partner with Chinese institutions to deliver vocational training, train-the-trainer programs and aged care facilities, as well as short-term executive courses," said Anna Lin, Austrade's China-based Trade Commissioner.

Shanghai’s senior population in 2016 grew 5 percent from a year earlier to reach 4.58 million, accounting for more than 31 percent of permanent residents.

“In the health and aged care sector, both Australia and China are facing the challenges and impact of an aging population, where training of professional staff provides key solutions to the challenges of growing demand of care workers, operators, health professionals and managers,” said Richard Coote, Austrade China National Manager.
