Baby in danger as mother stabs herself

A 26-year-old woman, one month pregnant, stabbed herself in the stomach after quarreling with her boyfriend last night, and may lose the baby, a local newspaper reported today.
The couple quarreled fiercely about 8pm in front of a residential complex in Yangpu District. The man left suddenly and the woman took out a 10-centimeter long fruit knife and stabbed herself in the stomach, according to a Shanghai Evening Post report.
The woman fell to the ground with the knife still in her stomach, a witness said in the report. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment in the company of her boyfriend.
The woman is still critical after undergoing surgery and the baby is likely to die.
