Bags get cross-town delivery

INTERNATIONAL flight passengers who intend to transfer from Hongqiao International Airport to Pudong International Airport do not need to have their luggage checked again because security information is being shared between the city's two airports.

The luggage will be moved to Pudong after the passengers check in at the new terminal building of Hongqiao airport.

There's no such service, however, when going in the opposite direction: Pudong to Hongqiao.

"Passengers do not need to carry their big luggage all the way from one end of the city to the other," said a spokeswoman with the Shanghai Airport Authority. The service started April 27

Aviation authorities said they are trying to make the journey smoother and more convenient for visitors who will come to the World Expo.

Both airports have multi-language services and direct shuttle buses to the Expo site.
