Bags stolen from Metro scanners
A woman has been caught for allegedly stealing passengers' bags as they went through scanners during security checks at the Shaanxi Road S. Metro station, police said yesterday.
The suspect was caught on Monday by security guards after a rider chased her from the subway stop of Line 1 to a shopping center downtown.
"It never occurred to me that my bag would be lifted in such kind of way," said the rider, surnamed Du. "It happened so quickly."
Security guards in the center found the suspect via surveillance camera and nabbed her in a toilet area. The woman had hidden stolen goods inside the toilet ceiling, where police found several purses, cell phones and computers.
City Metro police said they would enhance guard training, adding that they had previously fired more than 20 unqualified guards.
