Baroque music not usual fare

MARC Minkowski and a group he founded in 1982 that uses instruments from the 17th and 18th centuries will give a performance of baroque music on March 3 at Shanghai Concert Hall.
Minkowski, a conductor born in 1962 in Paris who began his musical career as a bassoonist, is visiting Chinese mainland for the first time. He was a key figure in music movements in Europe in the 1970s.
His group, Les Musiciens du Louvre Grenoble, meaning the musicians of the Louvre, adopts the techniques from centuries ago as well as the music scores from that period to present baroque music to modern audiences.
The Shanghai concert program includes Christoph Willibald Gluck's "Don Juan or The Feast with the Statue" and "Imaginary Symphony," using work from Jean-Philippe Rameau.
