Bars and clubs vow they will do better

BARS and nightclubs in the New Factories entertainment area have promised to improve management after a man was beaten to death and two assaults occurred within six months.

Businesses in the area - also known as Tong Le Fang - made the pledge after receiving a letter of concern from Jing'an District prosecutors.

"The cases intensified without being stopped in time," said Cai Sheng, a prosecutor with Jing'an District Prosecutors Office. "There must be loopholes in management."

A customer service manager, surnamed Li, at the Baoma Club was charged with manslaughter after he allegedly killed an employee in September while "teaching him a lesson."

Three guards at Muse Bar were charged with assault after a customer was beaten on May 15.

And at a bar named Sky, five customers are alleged to have beaten another drinker with bottles on October 2.
