Best-selling Italian a book week highlight
ITALIAN best-selling author Paolo Giordano is among the top attractions at next month's Shanghai International Literature Week.
Giordano won the Premio Strega literary award for his first novel "The Solitude of Prime Numbers," which sold 1 million copies and was translated into 30 languages.
The literature week, part of the Shanghai Book Fair, runs from August 13 to 20. Giordano will speak at Sinan Mansions on August 14.
The next day, he will hold a signing for his second novel "The Human Body" at Shanghai Exhibition Center.
More than 40 activities, featuring 39 literary figures, will be held during the event. These include book signings, meets with readers, lectures and discussions between Chinese and overseas literary figures.
Among those appearing are Austrian novelist Peter Handke, British music critic Norman Lebrecht and British writer Geoff Dyer. Dyer will hold a signing and meet readers at the center on August 17.
Academics and critics, including Richard Brown, Sean Latham, Norman Lebrecht and Toby Lichtig, will feature in a seminar on Irish literary legend writer James Joyce. Brown and Latham will meet readers at the hall on August 15.
This year is the 10th anniversary of the Shanghai Book Fair, which is now a national book fair.
Organizer Shanghai Press and Publication Bureau will hold an international children's book fair in November, aimed at attracting overseas publishers.
