Bomb disposal unit finds sand in case outside bank
A black wooden case left outside a bank on downtown Huaihai Road M., one of the busiest streets in Shanghai, turned out to contain only sand, police said yesterday.
Huangpu District police received a call at noon, saying a suspicious black case was found outside an Agricultural Bank of China branch at 701 Huaihai Road M. Police and firefighters responded and moved the case to a safer place.
Explosive ordnance disposal measures were followed and the wooden case was found to contain sand.
Police warned residents not to leave waste in public areas.
It was the third such case in Huangpu District since June 23. An unattended suitcase was found at a China Everbright Bank branch on Lujiabang Road on June 23. People in the bank called police, who found the case to contain only books and returned it to its owner.
