Book ahead for holiday trips to Expo
BOOK ahead if you're planning to visit Expo during national holidays and peak periods, organizers warned the public today.
To limit visitors to 600,000 on busy days, tickets will only be pre-sold for 200 yuan each, World Expo Shanghai's organizer announced today.
Seventeen days are expected to be crowded - including the Labor Day and National Day holidays and the last week of Expo (October 25 to 31). Tickets for these days won't be available at the gate – visitors will have to book in advance.
The organizer planned to sell 400,000 tickets for the opening day on May 1, and more than two-thirds have been sold since March 27, said Chen Xianjin, deputy director general of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination.
The organizer plans to sell 500,000 tickets each day for May 2 and 3 as well as the first three days of October. They will sell 600,000 tickets for other peak days.
The organizer expects 400,000 people to visit the Expo every day on average.
Restaurants, toilets and other facilities at the Expo site will be able to serve at most 600,000 people every day, Chen said.
A total of 14.4 million tickets for the Expo have been sold, exceeding expectations by nearly 40 percent.
