Boy, 10, back with mom

A 10-YEAR-OLD boy who had been missing from home for almost three days has been reunited with his family, city police said yesterday.

The boy, surnamed Ding, was spotted by a surveillance camera at 2:11am on September 26 in Jing'an District, police said.

Officer Feng Saiming said the boy "was lingering alone on the street. It was raining and he was covering his face with a cloth."

"Sometimes he would just sit on a roadside bench," Feng added.

When two patrol officers rushed to the boy he was reluctant to tell them his name and address.

"The boy talked after we brought him a towel and food," said officer Qin Sheng.

The boy told the officers he wanted to go home. He had run away, he said, after being scolded by his mother for his poor performance at school.

City police said their "camera patrol" had also had a success in a similar case in the Pudong New Area.

A toddler was saved after he was seen narrowly missing being hit by several vehicles as he crossed a number of busy roads alone.
