Boy dies after mother throws him then herself from 4th floor

A mother in Baoshan District threw her four-year-old son and then jumped herself from their fourth-floor apartment this morning, resulting in the child's death while she was only slightly injured, Baoshan police said.
A witness surnamed Jiang said that the mother surnamed Zhou was more than 30 years old and lived in the neighborhood on Youyi Road. Jiang claimed she first heard a child crying from Zhou's apartment at about 4am, then Zhou threw her son down at about 5:15am.
Another witness said that Zhou later jumped wearing no clothes, but she survived the fall and even walked to the ambulance on her own.
According to Jiang, neighbors thought Zhou showed great love for her son, but in the past two years she may have suffered depression.
According to the police, Zhou is under criminal detention for murder, and details surrounding the case are being investigated.
