Boy dies from electric shock

A 10-YEAR-OLD boy died from electric shock on Monday night after touching a lamppost while playing in the garden of his community in Zhabei District.

It was later found that the lamppost was leaking and power to it was cut off yesterday. Investigation into the cause of the electricity leak was still ongoing yesterday.

The grief-stricken parents of the victim, Li Yuhao, are planning a lawsuit against the property management company of the Dahua Yangcheng residential area, according to the investigation report.

The accident happened about 7pm on Monday, neighbors said. Li touched the metal lamppost at the east side of the garden and suddenly collapsed, screaming in pain, neighbors said.

"I thought he was suffering a heatstroke until I, too, felt the shock while trying to revive him," said a middle-aged woman witness, who lives in the area.

Li was rushed to hospital but did not make it alive.

Li's parents, from Hunan Province, said Li was a good boy and had good grades in school. He had just celebrated his 10th birthday some days ago, they revealed.

The lamppost was installed in the area this summer.
