Boy in escalator mishap
A 13-YEAR-OLD boy suffered head injuries after getting his head wedged between two escalators yesterday.
With his parents at work, the boy surnamed Liang and his sister, 14, were playing at a supermarket on Laohumin Road yesterday to stay out of the heat. They had been in the store for about three hours when the accident happened about 1:50pm.
Liang, from Anhui Province, was going from the second floor to the third on an escalator while holding an empty trolley. An escalator going down was next to the one Liang was on. He didn't see a sign on the escalator warning of the danger.
The boy placed his head on the handrail while looking down. His head got wedged in the space where the escalators cross and he was bleeding.
His sister, who was standing behind him, called out immediately and a supermarket worker turned off the escalator.
He was sent to Children's Hospital of Fudan University, where he was treated for external head injuries.
