Boys mimic hostage-taking in standoff with parents

TWO brothers aged 9 and 11 left their home in Baoshan District on Tuesday after quarreling with their parents and locked themselves in a hotel room. The bigger boy even threatened to hurt his younger brother if someone breaks in. They were rescued by police yesterday afternoon.

The young boys, whose names were not revealed, entered the Xuanxiang Hotel on Mudanjiang Road on Tuesday night. Though they were too young to have ID cards, the hotel owner still gave them a room after charging them 200 yuan as deposit.

The parents found their sons missing about 11am yesterday and eventually located them in the nearby Xuanxiang Hotel. No matter what they said, the two boys refused to get out.

A witness surnamed He said the father attempted to break in, but the elder boy took out a pen-like object and threatened to hurt his younger brother if anyone enters the room.

The parents then called the police. At about 2:30pm, the boys were taken out of room by police without any harm.

A neighbor said the boys' parents were also summoned to the police station to get a lesson on how to be a good parent.
