Brand shoes priced at US$1,075 each on average under tests for safety risks: city watchdog
SOME shoes sold at K11 and iapm were suspected of having quality problems and are undergoing further tests, the city's quality watchdog said today.
The Shanghai Quality Inspection and Supervision Bureau inspected five shoe shops inside the shopping malls yesterday, and found some high-heeled shoes, sports shoes and casual shoes had problems in "peel strength" and the quality of the shanks— a part of the supportive structure between the insole and outsole.
These are important safety standards for shoes and if they are poorly met, the wearers could suffer sprains, officials said.
About 90 pairs of shoes totaling 600,000 yuan (US$96,774) were involved, but the bureau did not reveal the brand names.
