Building repair starts for families to return
Cleaning and repair work has started today on the two buildings next to the 28-floor high-rise that was gutted by a deadly fire on November 15. Authorities hope the hundreds of evacuated families can move back by late December.
More than 50 workers will first reinforce the scaffoldings and then remove the polyurethane foam stuck on the two buildings' exterior walls.
When the fire happened, all the three buildings were partly covered by the insulation material intended to cut energy consumption of the buildings.
The polyurethane foam, a flammable material, was blamed for the quick spread of the fire, ignited by welding sparks.
Evacuated residents, including those from the two nearby buildings, are now shelterd in local hotels or inns.
It's estimated that families of the two nearby buildings can return home before December 20.
