Bund Origin hosts countdown party tonight

The New Year’s Eve countdown show at the Bund will be moved to the Bund Origin area tonight in order to improve traffic flow, the Huangpu District government announced today.
The countdown, which includes a light show and fireworks, starts at 11pm at the Bund Origin Cultural Square near Yuanmingyuan Road. Some special lighting effects and performers will make it a memorable occasion, said Sun Zhongming, director of the Huangpu District Tourism Bureau.
About 2,000 visitors will be invited to watch the show, but it will also be broadcast live on television, he said.
Traffic police suggested residents avoid the crowded areas and take public transport if going to the Bund.
The countdown show includes a performance by Liu Xuejing and a chorus from East China Normal University and Shanghai Film Art Academy.
The light show will be themed on civilization with bronze wares, blue and white porcelain and terra cottas, as well as another theme on the modern costume, Formula 1 race and horsemanship that were held in the city in 2014.
Last year officials were surprised when nearly 300,000 people turned up for the countdown show at the Bund, which led to traffic chaos.
