Celebrating the magic of Metro lines
Over a thousand Metro- and tunnel-themed philatelic items including stamps, postcards and envelopes are now being showcased at the Shanghai Metro Museum near Ziteng Road Station on Metro Line 10.
The collection was donated by Zhu Zuxi, a senior engineer who specialized in the waterproofing of tunnels and Metro tracks.
Zhu donated his entire collection to the museum to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People鈥檚 Republic of China, as well as the 15th anniversary of Shanghai Metro Group.
Zhu started collecting tunnel and Metro themed postage items in the early 1980s. These show the histories and techniques of tunneling and Metro construction, he said.
鈥淚t also makes you rejoice when something you designed appears on the items,鈥 Zhu said. One example is the Yangtze River Cross Tunnel in Shanghai.
鈥淎n envelope printed with the cross tunnel is not particularly bright or beautiful,鈥 said Zhu. 鈥淏ut it feels like an old friend.鈥
Apart from the exhibition, Zhu also opened a gallery of Metro signs in the corridor of Yishan Road Station on Metro Line 9.
The exhibition will run through the end of this year. People can also view a digital version of the exhibition on the Metro Daduhui app and the official website and WeChat account of Shanghai Metro.
