Chief named for Pudong-Nanhui merger


XU Lin, Party Secretary of Pudong Development New Area, has been appointed as the man to lead Nanhui District's merger with Pudong, it was announced today.

A leadership team in charge of the merger was also named.

Jiang Liang was today appointed acting governor of Pudong, after Li Yiping's resignation from the governor's post was approved by the 22nd meeting of the Standing Committee of the 3rd Pudong Committee of the Chinese People's Congress.

Xu described the merger as an essential opportunity for Shanghai to explore its opening-up and development. He said the leadership group will liaise with local officials and people to help two districts enjoy a smooth merger.

Xu, born in June 1963, is a native of Shanghai. He holds a master's degree in Management of Business Administration, and used to be Party secretary of the Shanghai Agricultural Committee and the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau.

He was vice Party secretary of Nanhui's Youth League and Jiading District.

He also worked as vice Party secretary of Xigazein City in the Tibet Autonomous Region.
