China Pavilion skirts machines

Reservation tickets for the China Pavilion will be distributed by hand at each entrance of the World Expo site today, the Expo bureau said.

Free guide maps to the Expo site will also be given to visitors today at each entrance and at the site's 56 service stations.

Eighty groups of volunteers will hand out the pavilion tickets - a much easier proposition than queuing up in front of reservation machines. Those machines, by the way, will still be available. Many visitors complained on Tuesday, the first day of test operations, that they had to line up for more than an hour simply to get a reservation ticket from a machine, and then had to line up again in front of China Pavilion with the tickets in hand.

A sudden breakdown of the machines on Tuesday didn't help matters.

The China Pavilion can hold 50,000 visitors per day.

More pavilions will open to visitors today, the third of six previews, for at least part of the day. Those countries include Japan, Spain, Netherlands, Finland, Turkey, Hungary, Iceland, France and Colombia.
