China’s homegrown micro films make profits of over 5 billion yuan last year

THE fourth China International Micro Film Festival will close tonight at Shanghai Vancouver Film School with a grand awards ceremony.
More than 600 micro movies from home and abroad are vying for the awards including best micro film, best director and jury Grand Prix.
Organizers said that entries for this year's competition include novel and creative scripts and cinematography.
At the festival's forum in the afternoon, industry insiders noted that domestic micro movies will have great potentials to develop and spread in China in terms of its low budget, diverse styles and more freedom and flexibility of creation.
Total ticket sales in 2015 surpassed 44 billion yuan, a 48 percent increase from a year earlier. It has also made China the world’s second-largest movie market after the US. Industry observers also revealed at the forum that homegrown micro films made profits of more than 5 billion yuan last year and the earnings are expected to be doubled in 2016.
