Chinese chef to study in Spain

A Chinese chef will have a chance to study his craft for three months in Spain under the Ferran Adria International Scholarship announced yesterday at the Spain Pavilion.

The announcement was included in various events for the Catalonia Week which started on Monday.

The Chinese chef will be one of four chosen to be the first recipients of the scholarship this summer.

To qualify, applicants need to have degrees from a cooking college. They also need to submit four innovative recipes made with Catalan products - a starter, a main course with fish, a main course with meat and a dessert.

The four recipients will be accompanied by a tutor to Catalonia next year to participate in a training course and develop a gastronomic project. The course consists of practical experience in a restaurant, visits to product manufacturers and a working day at the prestigious gastronomic research center, the Alicia Foundation.

The scholarship is named after Ferran Adria from the Catalonia Autonomous Community of Spain. He is recognized as one of the best chefs in the world and has a three-star Michelin restaurant in the area.
