City attractions offer big selection of festival activities

Tourist attractions across the city will host a number of activities during the upcoming Spring Festival with the city's tourism authorities reminding tourists to keep good order and avoid pushing and squeezing ahead when among a crowd of people.
Shanghai Ocean Aquarium in the Pudong New Area has introduced several sheepsheads from Florida for display during the festival to mark the Year of the Sheep. It’s the first time the species will be exhibited in Asia. The saltwater fish has a hard mouth with several rows of stubby teeth, which look similar to human teeth. The teeth help the fish crush the shells of prey.
Shanghai Zoo will host exhibitions related to sheep and visitors will be able to win gifts by participating in games such as looking for certain species of sheep around the zoo and answering riddles hidden in lanterns. Various species of sheep like thars and bharals will be on display at the zoo during the festival.
Fangta Park will hold dragon and lion dances, Yue opera performances, craft shows and riddle guessing games during the festival.
Elsewhere, a flower exhibition with about 12,000 tulips, crane flowers and rieger begonias continues at Chenshan Botanical Garden until February 25. The highlight of the exhibition is “Cathay,” a new strain of tulip introduced from the Netherlands that is being displayed in Shanghai for the first time.
Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi Jinping, christened the new tulip “Cathay” while on a visit to the world famous Keukenhof flower garden in the Netherlands.
Shanghai World Financial Center will host bell-ringing ceremonies for people to make a Chinese New Year’s wish and every visitor will be given a paper-cut that can be used to decorate their home. Percussion performances and dragon and lion dances will also be held at the center.
