City gains five new park-and-ride lots

FIVE new park-and-ride lots will open for business during the trial run of World Expo from April 20, providing a total of 10,000 car spaces.

The new lots will be at Shanghai International Circuit, Hongqiao Integrated Transportation Hub, Songjiang University Town, Guyang Road N. and Songjiang Bus Station, according to Huang XiaoYong, a spokesman of Shanghai Transport and Port Authority.

"The new lots are expected to encourage more people to take public transportat to the Expo site," said Huang.

Visitors may transfer to Metro Lines or special buses to the Expo site near the five park-and-ride lots.

After the World Expo, the lots will also offer tourists and residents a much easier way to transfer to public transport while traveling around the Yangtze River Delta region.

Visitors from Zhejiang Province or Jiangsu Province can arrive at the park-and-ride lots from expressways and use public transport to enter the city.

Park-and-ride users are charged 5 yuan (US$ 0.73) per day at Shanghai International Circuit parking lot and 10 yuan at the others.
