City police bust huge drugs gang
SHANGHAI police have busted this year's biggest drug-manufacturing gang, detaining 13 suspects and confiscating nearly 20 kilograms of ketamine and 200 kilograms of raw materials, police said today.
The suspects formed a drug production and selling network across Shanghai and Guangdong Province. The drug factory in Guangdong has been smashed, officers said.
The group head Lu Minhua, a 43-year-old Shanghai man, allegedly set up the factory and asked a drug seller in the city to sell his drugs to buyers outside Shanghai.
Anti-drug police in Xuhui District noticed after the Spring Festival that two managers of an entertainment place in Zhejiang Province came to the city almost once a week and returned on the same day.
Police investigation found they regularly bought drugs from a man nicknamed A Si. Police judged the drug amount must be big since the sales were frequent.
On March 1, the two Zhejiang buyers, who were about to leave the city after buying drugs, were caught. By interrogating them, police learned that Lu was the person behind A Si.
Police in Shanghai and Guangdong then formed a joint team to carry out investigation.
Although Lu kept several homes and was always on the move, police busted him while he was attending a parent-teacher conference at his son's school.
