City police open online platform for locals to upload evidences of traffic offenses captured by their car DVRs
From Wednesday on, citizens can report traffic offenses captured by digital video recorders (DVR) installed in their cars to the police via a platform at the official website of Shanghai Traffic Police.
Up till 3pm on Wednesday, a total of 17 videos had been uploaded to the platform, police said.
The video clips will serve as clues for further investigation on the part of the police to punish offenders.
Whistle-blowers are required to upload the video files, under 60 seconds in length and under 100M in size, within three days since the offenses occur, and the videos had better contain road signs or adequate indicators of the locations where the offenses take place.
Police said they will take action based on the reports within 15 workdays and give feedbacks to the whistle-blowers who will be able to check the status of the procedures on the same platform.
“The cloud service we adopt is able to hold 31,000 videos of 100M in size each within a three-day period,” said Feng Kairen, Vice Chief of Shanghai Traffic Police.
The address of the web platform is http://sh.122.gov.cn/jb. It’s available only in Chinese.
