City sets New Year bang ban in areas
THE city government says it will enact a strict ban on fireworks and firecrackers in some key areas, including the Expo site, during the Lunar New Year festival.
The ban applies to the airports, two railway stations, the under-construction Hongqiao Transport Hub, business hubs like People's Square, Xujiahui and Yuyuan Garden, some large parks and streets, and the financial center in the Pudong New Area's Lujiazui area.
The full list was released yesterday on the government's Website, although not in English: www.shanghai.gov.cn.
Authorities will allow pyrotechnics in most other parts of the city on Chinese New Year's Eve, February 13; February 18 to greet the God of Fortune; and February 28, the Lantern Festival.
In places not cited in the banning order, people will be allowed to set off firecrackers from 6pm until 8am the next morning.
