SHANGHAI Customs have accelerated the clearance speed of coal imports to ensure the city's electricity supply this summer, after power demand recorded a new high on July 9. Customs officials said they have provided a "green channel" for shipments of thermal coal into Shanghai. On average, the clearance time has been shortened by one or two days. In the first six months, Shanghai Customs dealt with 8.16 million tons of imported coal - an increase of 31.8 percent from the same period last year. More than 80 percent of coal was imported from Indonesia.
