Cold front to end rain on Tuesday

SHANGHAI'S temperature is likely to drop this week as a cold front moves down, the weather forecast said today.

Intermittent rain will continue tonight and tomorrow. The minimum temperature will drop to 3 degrees Celsius next morning while the maximum temperature will be below 6 degrees, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

The drizzle is expected to stop on Tuesday and the sky will turn cloudy, but the temperature will drop further to around 1 degree Celsius. The high is forecast to climb to 9 degrees on Tuesday and fall to 5 degrees on Wednesday.

"Rain will probably come back on Monday with the raining belt moving upwards," said Zhang Ruiyi, a chief forecaster at the weather bureau. "The sky will clear up after Monday and stay sunny and cloudy for a few days due to the cold front."

Zhang warned that the cold front will bring stronger winds to the city. The readings in the urban areas will be between one to six degrees and ice may appear in the suburban areas.

The city should get warmer toward the weekend.
